From Outdated to Spa-Like: A Complete Primary Bathroom Remodel Transformation
While your bathroom needs to be functional, it can also offer comfort, cleanliness, and be customized to fit the rest of your home. For this bathroom renovation project, we completely renovated an existing primary bathroom to be more spacious, modern, and comfortable while doing major renovations to the shower, tub, floor, vanity, and other aspects of the bathroom.
The Before
While the original bathroom had plenty of space to play with, the old-fashioned layout and materials gave it a dated look. The shower area included a large metal-framed shower door with small white tiles and raised tiling that separated it from the rest of the room. The original double vanity, lighting, flooring, and fixtures all carried an old-fashioned look. It was our aim to create a more modern and cohesive bathroom.
Creating a Larger Space
One of the most dramatic transformations in the renovation project involved the shower. Instead of an enclosed shower, we installed a larger walk-in shower featuring large-format tile, a lowered entry, and an open layout. An integrated shower niche is perfect for storing essentials without adding shelves and other decor that can interfere with the clear lines of the shower space. To further create a more modern look of the shower, we added a rainfall showerhead, a handheld showerhead, and a linear drain.
Adding a Soaking Tub to the Bathroom
Instead of an old built-in tub, we introduced a freestanding tub that gave the bathroom a more luxurious touch. Instead of making the bathtub a separate element in the room, we continued the use of the large-format tile all around the bathtub and shower spaces, thus creating visual harmony between the two elements of the room. The neutral-colored tiles work perfectly with the blue walls of the bathroom.
Flooring and Coordinated Design
The original floor tiles have been upgraded to large floor tiles to create fewer grout lines and give the room a wider appearance. The new flooring complements the shower and tub wall tiles, giving harmony in the design throughout the bathroom. The dark blue walls add character without overpowering the bathroom. The bathroom features a white ceiling, white bathtub, white countertops, and white bathroom fixtures.
Vanity Redesign
The vanity area has been redesigned too. The natural wood vanity provides a contrasting color against the dark wall color and the dark tiles. It features a bright colored stone countertop, undermount sinks, and updated bathroom fixtures such as faucets, mirrors, lights, and accessories. It is a transitional design that appears modern and up to date without being trendy.
